Bond with his trusty Aston Martin DB5.
Sean Connery who played the original James Bond actor dies at age 90. For many, he was the one and only Bond. In the watch world, the character he played is likely to be the most influential for many to go out and purchase a Rolex. His playing of Bond inspired and thrilled so many into dreaming of traveling the world on a secret mission, staying at the coolest hotels, having a dry martini at the bar, and for the one or two hours that we watched his films we could escape our daily lives for a moment steeped in mystery and espionage.

The New Rolex 2020 Submariner is here!
The new Rolex Submariner 2020 model
The new Rolex Submariner 2020 releases.
Now let’s see what’s new. The case size is now 41mm vs the old 40mm. Rolex seems to be moving everything up in size following the trend of larger watches. This is something they did not do in the far past but it is becoming more common. Some will like this and some will not. They may have done this to help slim the case silhouette as the lugs now are more tapered near the ends vs the older blocky look. This part of the new Submariner is most welcoming. The older 40mm case however is for some men very comfortable and visually balanced for most wrist sizes. 41mm may be too bulky for small wrists. Others with larger wrists will welcome the bigger diameter or some that simply like a more pronounced watch to say look at me (normally reserved for the Breitling crowd). The case thickness has also been trimmed down slightly more inline with models in the past.
The movement has finally been updated from the 3135 to the 3235 with now a 70hr power reserve.
All the new Submariners with the 41mm case come in the same metals and color combos as the previous 40mm except for the two below.

New release: From Zenith Watches The CHRONOMASTER Revival A386 Manufacture Edition 03.Z386.400/60.C843
Zenith releases the new shades of blue dial for the reference A386 model that was only in precious metals before now available in stainless steel. This has to be one of the most soothing to the eye color combo dials I have seen for a while. Zenith keeps digging through the infamous attic at their headquarters finding new/old treasures. We at Watch Noble are excited about the release and believe it will sell well. Listed below is the information provided by Zenith.
“CHRONOMASTER Revival A386 Manufacture Edition
Dial inspired by vintage prototypes never released and found in the Attic of the Manufacture Exclusive Manufacture Edition Original 1969 case with 38 mm diameter Automatic El Primero column-wheel chronograph
Ref 03.Z386.400/60.C843
SHADES OF BLUE
For its first Manufacture Edition, exclusively available on our online store and to those who visit the Manufacture in Le Locle, Zenith is revisiting a secret part of the El Primero story and the first watches that were equipped with it. Housed in a steel case that mimics the proportions and finishes of the A386 from 1969, the signature tri-color dial is inspired by a previously unknown prototype with three shades of blue for the chronograph counters.
THE SECRET ATTIC
The Chronomaster Manufacture Edition is inspired by a prototype dial for the A386 from 1969, which was never produced - until now. During the 50th anniversary of the El primero, a small box was found in the secret attic where Charles Vermot had hid the tools and plans needed to produce the El Primero calibre. Within it were a number of dials, including a previously unknown iteration of the A386's iconic tri-color dial, using three different shades of blue.
MOVEMENT
Just like the original A386 from 1969, the Chronomaster Manufacture Edition is equipped with the venerable El Primero calibre, the world's first automatic high-frequency chronograph movement. Beating at 36'000 VpH (5 Hz) and delivering a power reserve of minimum 50 hours, the El Primero is as exceptional among chronograph calibres today as it was when first launched over 50 years ago.”

NEWS: Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe Leave Baselworld For New Trade Show With Watches & Wonders
Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe Leaving Baselworld comes as no surprise to us. We had written about this in a previous article you can read here: Baselworld Show canceled and Postponed to January 2021 following in the footsteps of the Watches & Wonders Geneva show. What is interesting though is that these Giants of the watch industry are aligning with Watches & Wonders to form a yet unnamed show. There has been unrest amongst Luxury Brands attending Baselworld for some time now. Here is a quote from Rolex CEO, Jean-Frédéric Dufour, Chief Executive Officer of Rolex SA, and Board Member of Montres Tudor SA said:
"We have taken part in Baselworld since 1939. Unfortunately, given the way the event has evolved and the recent decisions make by MCH Group, an in spite of the great attachment we had to this watch show, we have decided to withdraw. Following discussions initiated by Rolex, it seemed only natural to create a new event with partners that share our vision and our endless, unwavering support for the Swiss watchmaking sector. This will allow us to present our new watches in line with our needs and expectations, to join forces and better defend the interests of the industry.
As you can see from Mr.Dufour's comments, brands have been frustrated with the Baselworld show for some time and the COVID-19 pandemic was partly the catalyst for the “abandoning of the sinking ship” so to speak. Also, something of interest to note is that in the past Rolex has not shown much interest in what other brands do and usually has kept a distance not to align themselves with other competitors. However, this press release was drafted with sister company Tudor, Patek Philippe, Chopard, Chanel on the header. This is defiantly not a common thing for them. Rolex was also the first to release the above statement perhaps to give the impression that those other brands listed are following along with them not the other way around. There may be more going on that the Luxury watch industry is eluding to and Rolex for once feels the industry itself is threatened so needs to plan for the coming change by leading the charge. Rolex has weathered bad storms in the past (such as the quartz watch revolution of the ’70s) and I’m sure they will this storm also. It will be interesting to see what direction Rolex goes into marketing their New Novelties to the world. Let’s wait and see how this all plays out in the future.
